The Gray House Guild

When Bess Winspear was elected first President at a gathering of nine Charter members and six friends in 1952 to form the Gray House Guild, they embarked on a venture which harnessed one of Edmonton’s special strengths: the selfless dedication of volunteers.
The dream of these women was to provide care to the citizens of Edmonton and district.  They achieved their goal in 1963 when the doors of the original facility were opened.  By the mid 1990s due to the diligent work of staff, volunteers and the Guild, the Allen Gray realized that it would have to expand.  The Guild explored a number of options, eventually deciding on building a new, larger facility in Mill Woods which was opened in 2002.

The Gray House Guild operates as a voluntary non profit society which owns and operates the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre.
