THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ALBERTA BILL 22 RESIDENT AND FAMILY COUNCILS ACT
The Legislative Assembly of Alberta Bill 22, also known as the Resident and Family Councils Act, represents a significant step in promoting transparency,
accountability, and resident-centered care within long-term care facilities in Alberta.
Enacted to address concerns about the well-being and rights of residents, particularly in the context of nursing homes and assisted living centers, this legislation emphasizes the establishment and empowerment of resident and family councils. These councils serve as vital forums where residents and their families can voice their opinions, raise concerns, and actively participate in shaping the policies and practices that affect their daily lives.
By granting these councils a formal role in decision-making processes and ensuring that their input is genuinely considered, Bill 22 aims to foster a culture of collaboration, respect, and responsiveness within care facilities. The legislation underscores the government's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for vulnerable individuals while reinforcing the importance of open communication and collective involvement in the management of long-term care environments.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION PROCESS
The Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre strives to collaborate with our Resident's family members as partners in care in a transparent and inclusive manner.
Our Safe Visitation Policy was created after an extensive survey from families and taking into account the risk profile of our facility.
​
We have designed a progressive 4- step conflict resolution mechanism in the event of a disagreement between a family member and the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre about the program, its administration, or its compliance. To ensure that all issues are resolved in a timely manner, the procedure must be followed.
​
Please note that initiation of a Concern Resolution should start by bringing the concern to the attention of the Care Manager of the Resident's assigned nursing floor.
